The most common types of cancers and how to spot them

 

Cancer is probably the most menacing challenge for medical sciences that has not only claimed several lives across the world but also remains to be one of the most critical diseases to be detected at a curable stage. While most cancers are tough to be detected in the initial stages, it is better to know a little more about the most common types of cancers and the signs which can prompt one to go for an expert’s diagnosis. Although the signs here are not a clear indication for cancer and the actual results may finally depend on the doctor’s examination, these can be considered as potential symptoms for some of the most common types of cancers.

Breast Cancer

Breast cancer has become very common in middle-aged women over the past few years, and hence earlier the detection, better the cure. 
Some of the signs for Breast Cancer include:
  • Painless lumps in the breast, near the armpit / collarbone 
  • Breast swelling 
  • Pain in the nipple
  • Redness or thickening of the breast-skin 
  • Abnormal nipple discharge

Lung Cancer

Some common lung cancer symptoms include: 
  • Worsening cough 
  • Blood in the cough 
  • Chest pain 
  • Pain in the bones
  • Headaches that come back 
  • Difficulty breathing

Bladder Cancer

Bladder cancer, although quite curable, in certain cases, can become life-threatening, and hence it is indispensable to know about the signs: 
  • Urinary blood
  • Urinary pain

Leukemia

Leukemia patients will usually be accompanied by a few uneasy symptoms such as:
  • High fever with chills
  • Exhaustion / weakness
  • Lymph nodes are swollen
  • Pain in the bones
  • Liver enlargement

Endometrial Cancer

This cancer affects the endometrium or the uterus lining. Some of the signs are:
  • Abnormal vaginal bleeding
  • Vaginal discharge that seems abnormal
  • Loss of weight

Prostate Cancer

Prostate cancer can be very tricky to detect as the symptoms are very similar to some of the other conditions of the prostate such as BPH and prostate enlargement. However, if not detected in the earlier stages, prostate cancer can be difficult to treat with or without surgical interventions. 
Some of the most commonly observed symptoms for prostate cancer include: 
  • Frequent urination
  • Urinary pain
  • Urinary blood
  • Erectile dysfunction
  • Unexplained loss in weight 
  • Fatigue and constant feeling of exhaustion
