What are the causes for cervical cancer? 

A virus called HPV or Human Papillomavirus which can usually be transmitted sexually is known to cause the maximum number of cervical cancer cases. Out of some hundreds of different strains, only a few can cause this condition. The two strains that most commonly cause cancer are HPV-16 and HPV-18.
